The apple-tree grade "Melba" is a high-quality summer grade which was brought in Canada out of Mekintosh's seeds received from free pollination. Trees of average winter hardiness, are fruitful, skoroplodna, begin to fructify annually already on 3 — the 4th year of growth in an open ground. Fruits of an average or above the average size (the average weight of apple of 118 grams, the maximum 137 grams). Apples Melba have the flat and conic, weak and ridge form, chartreuse, with not clearly expressed karminny flush. Pulp of white color, juicy, with candy aroma, sweet-sour, excellent quality. Collecting a harvest is begun in the middle of August. Consumption - until the end of September. Apples Melba are suitable also for preparation of juice and compotes. Fruits rather well transfer transportation and at the correct storage in refrigerating conditions can lie till November, and even till January. Grade Melba of average winter hardiness. Advantage merits and demerits: productivity, high skoroplodnost, high consumer qualities of apples and trade dress. Shortcomings: low resistance to incidence of a scab, average winter hardiness, tendency to periodical fructification.
